                                        Merit Scholarships

                                        The Art Institute of Philadelphia High School Senior Scholarship Program: Seniors planning to major in the arts in design areas that include Animation, Fashion, Industrial, Media, Culinary Arts, Visual Effects, Motion Graphics, Fashion Marketing, Photography, and Interior Design are eligible.                                         AXA Achievement Community Scholarship: This $2,000 scholarship is awarded to winners known as AXA Achievers. Recipients of this scholarship must demonstrate ambition, drive, respect for community, and the ability to succeed in college. Click here for more information.                                         Babson College: The Weissman scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship that also includes support for research, stipends for travel, and seed money to start a new venture. The criteria to be eligible is academic excellence and leadership. Click here for more information. Application deadline is the first week in February senior year. Check website for details.

                                        Boston University Trustee Scholars Program. Requires nomination. Awards can be up to $34,000. Students must say they are Trustee Scholar nominees on their BU applications. To apply, click here. The application deadline is the first week in December senior year. Check website for details.

                                        Boston University Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Competition. Requires nomination: This renewable, full-tuition scholarship recognizes BU alum Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Teachers and mentors nominate scholars. Click here for more information.                                         Boston University Scholarships: In addition to those above, BU offers a number of scholarships specifically for tuition. These include University Scholarship offering half-tuition for students with exceptional academic records; the National Scholars Award for National Merit or National Achievement Program finalists who designate BU as their 1st choice by Mar 1 senior year; and the Deans' Scholarships and Founders' Grant for students who have little or no calculated need but apply for need-based financial aid.                                         Brandeis University Freshman Grants and Scholarships: Students pursuing merit-based scholarships must file the CSS/Financial Aid Profile form.                                         Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship: To be eligible for this $1,500 scholarship students must be NY residents, receive their high school diploma during the current academic year, and have a minimum combined SAT score of 1875.                                         Canisius College Music Scholarships: Seniors may receive $2,000/year; they do not have to be music majors or minors, but must be admitted, have HS music performance experience and audition.                                         Carnegie Mellon University Scholarships: Seniors are eligible for renewable, half- to full-tuition scholarships recognizing outstanding academic, artistic, and personal achievement. Financial need is not required. Scholarships are often specific to a particular concentration like computer science, engineering, fine arts, or liberal arts. Click here for more information.                                         University of Chicago Merit Scholarships: The College Honor Scholarship recognizes outstanding academic and extracurricular achievement, leadership, and commitment to community, with tuition awards. Click here or call 773-702-8650.

                                        University of Cincinnatti -- National Engineering Scholarship Program: Out-of-state students are eligible for a minimum $9,100 (renewable) in combined UC scholarship awards. Call 513-556-5417, send email, or click here for more information.

                                        Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation: Semifinalists for this program will complete a secondary application, including essays, official transcripts, and two letters of recommendation.  50 National Scholars will receive awards of $20,000 and 200 Regional Scholars will receive awards of $10,000 for college. Click here for more information.  Application deadline is October 31.

                                        College for Creative Studies Scholarships. Requires nomination: Seniors interested in subjects like Graphic Design, Photography and Fine Arts, and Interior Design can enter artwork in Animation and Digital Media, Communication Design, Crafts, Fine Arts, Illustration, Industrial Design, Interior Design, or Photography.                                         University of Colorado at Boulder-Norlin Scholars: Norlin Scholars are selected from a group of high achieving students from all academic disciplines. They have the opportunity to take specialized core and elective courses and engage in research or creative work with faculty members.                                         University of Colorado Denver: The Denver Bound Scholarship offers awards ranging from $8,000 to $64,000 over four years for out-of-state freshman. Students must have a GPA of 3.5 or better to qualify. Click here for more information.

                                        University of Connecticut: A series of four-year renewable scholarships for high school seniors with a record of high academic achievement and leadership. For more information, email or click here.

                                        Denison Merit-based scholarships: These full-tuition scholarships in humanities and sciences recognize academic and leadership achievement among multicultural students with diverse backgrounds. Contact 800-DENISON or click here for more information. Students should have submitted applications for admission by January 15, senior year to ensure consideration for merit scholarships.

                                        Discover Scholarship Program: This scholarship program awards $30,000 in financial assistance for education to diverse 11th graders on their exemplary achievements including leadership and community service. Click here for more information.

                                        Drew University Baldwin Honors Program: The Baldwin Honors program offers a challenging set of courses augmented with exclusive co- and extracurricular activities. These activities include a sophomore off-campus overnight, dinners or master classes with elite VIP speakers and regular honors gatherings with the program director. Click here for more information.

                                        Duke U and UNC Chapel Hill Robertson Scholars Program: This is a joint merit scholarship for students at Duke and the U of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Students either receive full tuition at Duke, or full tuition, room and board at UNC-Chapel Hill. Scholars also receive funding for 3 summers of research, service, and travel, and a laptop computer.                                         Elmira College Key Award: One male and one female from each participating school receive the Elmira College Key and a $40,000 scholarship ($10,000/year). Winners are required to visit Elmira before 12/1 of their senior year to qualify. It is not based on financial need. Click here for more information.

                                        Emory Scholars Program. Requires nomination: Emory awards up to full-tuition with stipends for cultural and social events, study abroad and/or service-learning opportunities. Contact 800-727-6036 or click here. The nomination deadline is November 1 of the student's senior year.

                                        Emory University Business School Goizueta Scholars Program [for undergraduates]. Requires nomination: The program supports 4 years of undergraduate study, including study abroad. All students apply to the business school once juniors at Emory and are guaranteed admission with priority access to business classes.                                         Fashion Institute of Technology Presidential Scholars Program: Academically gifted students take Honors courses, projects and colloquia in a variety of disciplines beyond required course subjects.                                         Five Towns College Scholarships: Childhood Education, Mass Communication, Music Performance scholarships (violin, cello, viola, bass, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn or trombone), and Theatre Arts scholarships range from $500 to full tuition.                                         Guilford College Bonner Scholars Program: Students who demonstrate both financial need and commitment to community service are eligible. Scholars complete 140 hours of community service in exchange for tuition assistance, stipends, and loan reductions.                                         Hartwick College Manhattan Regional Alumni Scholarship: Interview at Hartwick or with an alum in your area before December 15th, and receive $5,000 scholarship/year if accepted for admission. Call 888-HARTWICK or click here for more information.

                                        IONA Presidential and Deans' Scholarships: The Honors Degree Progam offers scholarships ranging from $17,500 to full tuition. Click here for more information. The registration deadline is December 1 of the student's senior year.

                                        Ithaca College Park Scholar Program: This program develops future communications leaders who engage critically, act globally, and perform ethically. Participants are challenged to take action and give back to their communities using mass communication.                                         Juniata College Nomination Scholarship Program: Scholarship categories are Arts, Environmental Responsibility, Leadership, Service and Peacemaking. Students must be nominated by a Juniata alumnus/a, parent of a Juniata student, guidance counselor, teacher, or someone familiar with the student's involvement in school and community activities.                                         Kettering University Scholarships: Kettering just released more than $3 million in scholarship funds for students interested in engineering, math and science, or technology-related business. Its students earn as much as $65,000 through co-ops. Click here for more information.

                                        Knox College John Huston Finley Scholarship: Students from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut may receive $2,000/year. Candidates have taken challenging classes, performed well, and contributed to their schools and communities. Call 800-678-KNOX or click here for more information.                                         Lake Forest College: Lake Forest offers scholarships ranging from $8,500 to $16,000 per year. Scholarships are based on academic achievement and excellence.                                         Long Island University Brooklyn Campus - Scholar and Service Awards: Scholar awards pay up to $5,000 and Service Awards pay up to $2,500 per year of tuition. Advanced students can apply for the Theodore Kruglak Award for overseas travel, and for tuition remission working on the campus newspaper.Click here for more information.

                                        Loyola College in Maryland Scholarships: Loyola offers Presidential and Claver scholarships that are not need-based and are renewable annually. For information, click here.

                                        Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA): MICA offers full-ride scholarships based on need to students with the highest levels of artistic and academic achievement.                                         MeritAid: A comprehensive directory of merit scholarships and academic scholarships from colleges across the country. MeritAid matches colleges and merit aid scholarships based on the student's profile that is completed online. Click here for more information.

                                        Milton Fisher Scholarship:  This program awards scholarships up to $20,000 to exceptionally innovative and creative high school juniors and seniors that reside in Connecticut and the New York City area.  Click here for more information.  Application deadline is April 18, 2011.

                                        National Achievement Scholarship Program: This program recognizes outstanding Black American High School students, giving them awards for college study. Two types of scholarships are offered: $2,500 scholarships and corporate-sponsored awards. Students take the PSAT to enter, requesting entry to the National Achievement Program on their answer sheet.                                         National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP-NY) Scholarship Program: NAAAP-NY assists and encourages promising Asian American students, awarding $2500. One Chan Lin Achievement Award goes to a senior who immigrated to the US within the past five years and has permanent legal US residence. Click here for more information.

                                        National CO-OP Scholarship: To qualify for this $6,000 scholarship, applicants must have a 3.5 GPA and complete the CO-OP appplication including a one page essay. Click here for more information. Application deadline is Feb. 15 of the student's senior year.

                                        New York Institute of Technology: NYT offers a variety of scholarships ranging from merit to diversity based. Click here for information on all NYT scholarships. Students are encouraged to apply as early as possible to take advantage of scholarship opportunities.

                                        New York School of Interior Design: Students experience both a professional design and a liberal arts education. Programs range from the study of the decorative arts and drafting to advanced computer-aided design and building codes. NYSID offers BFA and MFA degrees, and offers a variety of scholarships to students with a 3.0 GPA and above. Call 800-33NYSID or click here for more information.

                                        The New York Times Scholarship: The Times sponsors $7,500 per year for students demonstrating outstanding academic achievement and the ability to overcome financial and other obstacles.                                         University of Notre Dame Hesburgh-Yusko Scholarship: Requires nomination. Awards can be up to $25,000 per year and fully funded Summer Enrichment Experiences. E-mail to learn more.

                                        James Edward Oglethorpe Scholarship: All competitors receive a minimum four year scholarship of $24,000. Five scholarships are awarded providing full tuition valued at $105,000, a study abroad trip, and an invitation to enroll in the OU Honors Program.                                         Oglethorpe University Center for Civic Engagement Scholarship: The Center promotes service learning through projects, site visits, internships, and community development; students volunteer throughout Atlanta, working in schools, shelters, and environmental centers, and in New Orleans. Three entering students are eligible for a four-year, full-tuition scholarship, a $3,000 stipend for an internship at a nonprofit organization during their junior year, and a volunteer placement in the Center for Civic Engagement.                                         Ohio Wesleyan University Scholarships. Require nomination: These provide up to full-tuition. The Phillip J. and Nancy LaPorte Meek Community Service and Leadership Scholarships of $3,000 - $10,000 are for students with outstanding records of leadership demonstrated through commitment to community service.                                         Proton Energy Scholarship: This scholarship program will recognize and award students who demonstrate outstanding achievement in the fields of science and technology and who plan to pursue a college degree in these fields. Click here for more information.

                                        Randolph College Presidential Scholars Program - Requires nomination: Students who demonstrate academic excellence and leadership qualities may receive up to full tuition, room and board, and a study-abroad stipend (valued at $125,000 over four years).                                         University of Richmond Scholars Program: Recipients of this full-tuition, merit-based scholarship have demonstrated extraordinary academic achievement, exceptional personal qualities and potential for ongoing contributions to society.                                         Roanoke College Scholars Program: Receive up to $128,000 over four years. Apply upon admission to Roanoke and participate in competition aspects of the program. Click here for more information.

                                        U of Rochester Meliora Grant program: Students who enroll at Rochester will receive at least $20,000 in university grant assistance ($5,000/year). $5,000 merit scholarships are also available; students receive one or the other.                                         Rollins College Cornell Scholars program: Students accepted to the College of Arts & Sciences who are committed to pursuing additional recognition like Rhodes, Goldwater or Truman Scholarships are eligible for this scholarship covering full tuition, fees, room and board, and the use of a laptop computer, renewable for four years.                                         Russell Sage College Student Sage Scholarship - Requires nomination: Female students who are currently juniors who embody the Russell Sage motto "To Be, To Know, To Do" and who serve and inspire others in the school and community, with a GPA of at least a B+ are eligible for a scholarship or award from $7,000 to $16,000. Nominations are available online and students are selected for the nomination on April 10 of junior year.                                         Scripps College New Generation Scholarship: This highly competitive award based solely on merit, provides four years of full tuition, room, board, three roundtrip airfares home each year, and one summer research stipend to be used sometime during the student's time at Scripps.                                         Skidmore Porter Scholarships in Math and Science: Students who excel in the sciences and/or math are eligible for $10,000/year regardless of financial need.                                         St. John's University Ozanam Scholars Program: Frederic Ozanam was a 19th-century student activist and advocate for the poor, and this program was created for students to realize their potential as scholars, community activists, and leaders. Scholars collaborate with faculty mentors in a multi-disciplinary environment, pursuing real-world solutions to problems of poverty and social injustice.                                         SUNY Oswego Merit Scholarships for Freshmen: SUNY Oswego offers renewable Presidential and Merit Scholarships to students with a B+ average or better, an 1100 SAT (24 ACT) or ranked in the top 10-15% of their class.                                         School of Visual Arts Silas Rhodes Scholarship Program: This is a competition for new students based on a review of the applicant's creative and academic accomplishments.                                         St. Lawrence Presidential Diversity Scholars Program: African American, Asian American, Hispanic and Native American students receive $15,000/year based on academic achievement, leadership, and service to the community. Click here for more information.

                                        Susquehanna University Scholarships: Located in PA on 200 acres of historic land adjacent to the Susquehanna River, Susquehanna's core curriculum includes personal development and transition skills, and prides itself on its friendly faculty and an increasingly global community. The scholarships of up to $16,000 recognize outstanding achievement, personal accomplishment and/or creative talent regardless of financial need. Call 800-326-9672 or click here for more information.                                         Ursinus College Scholarships: Students who have been accepted to Ursinus are eligible for a number of scholarship awards from $5,000 to $25,000 renewable annually. Click here for more information.

                                        Vanderbilt University-Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship: Vanderbilt scholars are selected on the basis of academic achievement, and leadership and contribution outside the classroom. Vanderbilt scholars receive full tuition and must maintain a 3.0 GPA to renew each year. Click here for more information. Deadline is Jan. 3 senior year.

                                        Vanderbilt University ENGAGE Scholars Program: ENGAGE means Early Notification of Guaranteed Admission for Graduate Education. Vanderbilt has grad schools of Divinity, LAw, Management, Education, Engineering, Medicine, and Nursing. Students can still pursue any major, but will be introduced to a mentor in their area of interest. Click here for more information.

                                        Vanderbilt University Expanded Aid Program: Financial aid packages for incoming students include no need-based loans. Packages include grant/gift assistance that does not need to be repaid as well as a work component for students. Click here for more information.

                                        Sam Walton Community Scholarship: To be eligible for this $1,000 scholarship, applicants must have a 2.5 GPA, have taken either the ACT or SAT tests and must be enrolled full time for the fall semester and spring semester. Click here for more information.

                                        Washington & Lee University-Johnson Scholarship: Applicants will be selected on the basis of academic achievement and demonstrated leadership.                                         College Henry Wells Scholar Program. Requires nomination: Students of outstanding academic ability and scholastic achievement can receive an internship and a $3,000 stipend to support academic research, or related experience.                                         Wheelock College- Students with a 3.0 to 3.4 GPA and SAT scores of 1050-1150 qualify for merit scholarships ranging from $4,000 to $12,000. For more information click here.

                                        Whittier College: Students compete for the full tuition, John Greenleaf Whittier academic merit scholarship. This scholarship is open to applicants that have a 3.5 GPA or higher, a SAT I scores of 1800 or above, and have submitted a completed application for admission to Whittier College.                                         Whittier College Talent Scholarships: Art, Music, and Theater departments award scholarships to students based on a separate application and supplemental materials (auditions for theater and music, and a portfolio for art). Students do not have to major or minor in the subject, but maintain involvement in the department while a student at Whittier.                                         Will to Win: This nationwide program will provide $5,000 in college scholarships for graduating seniors with asthma.
