  • On March 10, only the SAT is offered.
  • Sunday administrations usually occur the day after each Saturday test date, for students who cannot test on Saturday due to religious observance.
  • The Language with Listening Tests are offered only in November.

CSS Profile Online

Picture
Many schools require applicants to complete this application for admission and financial aid.  This application is in addition to the FAFSA.  Deadlines for the CSS Profile vary per institution, but generally range from November to February.  DO NOT miss the deadline for this application.  For a list of institutions that require the Profile and to begin the apllication visit https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/prf/index.jsp.  In addition to the Profile Online Application, many schools require a non-custodial parent supplement.  Make sure that you complete this supplement for those schools that require it.  For clarification visit Mr. Giordano.

Guidance appointments

This is probably the most important thing you will do this year.  For an appointment with Mr. Giordano please make the request immediately before or after school.  It is imperative that you meet with me regardless of your plans for next year.  It is YOUR responsibility to schedule these meetings.

Fee Waivers

Picture
A limited number of fee waivers are available for students for college applications and the SAT.  All fee waivers are distributed by Mr. Giordano and are based on the most recent tax return (1040).  There are very strict guidelines for the distribution of these waivers.  If you think that you may qualify please provide Mr. Giordano with a copy of your parent's tax return.  If your parent is a designated "legal guardian" please inform me, the qualifications may be different.

SAT Subject Area Examinations

This Nation's top colleges and universities typically require or recommend taking up to three SAT subject area exams.  For Spanish speakers, I would recommend taking Spanish as one of the three.  The other two should consist of a math and/or science and a literature and/or social studies.  For more information visit http://sat.collegeboard.com/practice/sat-subject-test-preparation?s_kwcid=TC|7002|subject%20tests||S||5534953604

Sending SAT Scores

Picture
If you will take the October SAT, MOST schools will accept the SAT score that is included on your transcript.  Do not pay to have additional score reports sent to schools unless you are certain that they will not accpet scores from your official transcript.  If you are taking the Novemeber SAT, chances are that your SAT scores will not arrive in time for them to be included on your official transcript.  This means that it is important for you to send the scores directly from the collegeboard.  You can accomplish this by logging into your collegeboard account and making sure that the schools you are applying to are selected under the "send scores to" section of the SAT registration.  The collegeboard charges a fee for additional score reports.

SAT score reporting policy "Score Choice"

Please visit the collegeboard website for information on this new policy.  Basically, the Collegeboard now gives you the choice on which scores to send to particular colleges.  Be aware that some schools REQUIRE that ALL scores are sent for each test date.  For most students, this change is irrelevant given that most colleges and universities will choose the highest scores regardless and will not penalize you for lower scores.  To be safe, send all scores to all schools.

Sending Transcripts to Colleges

Picture
If you are using the commonapp to apply to an institution, you do not need to request transcripts, mid-year reports, or recommendations.  Simply add my name and email address to the forms section of the commonapp.  If you are applying using an application other than the commonapp, you must request these documents from me.  For transcripts, fill out the transcript request form.  For recommendations, send me an email request with a resume and short biography. The bio should include personal information, such as single parent household, living environment, or any adversity that you or your family might have faced in your childhood.

Counselor Recommendation Letters

If you wish for Mr. Giordano to write you a recommendation letter, you are REQUIRED to email your resume and a short biography to TAPCocounselor@gmail.com.  Please do not procrastinate.

Teacher Recommendation Letters

Please provide teachers with ample time to complete a recommendation letter.  Either provide the teacher with a resume or a teacher recommendation form.  If you are using the commonapp, be sure to submit the teacher's email address on the commonapp.  The recommendation letter will be submitted electronically.  If you are not using the commonapp, provide the teacher with an enevelope addressed to the school that you are sending the letter.

SUNY EOP APPLICANTS

Picture
Students applying to the EOP at any SUNY school are advised to use the SUNY application at www.suny.edu instead of the commonapp application.  If you choose to use the commonapp application you must notify the school that you wish to be considered as an EOP applicant. EOP applicants who qualify for a fee waiver can apply to no more than three schools.  Once you have completed the application, be sure to complete all supplemental materials.  Please remember......Time is of the essence!  For income guidelines visit http://www.suny.edu/student/academic_eop.cfm

The Commonapp

The Common Application (informally known as the Common App) is an undergraduate college admissionapplication that applicants may use to apply to any of the 392 institutions in the United States that use the application. There are two sections to the commonapp, the application and the supplements.  Only one application needs to be filled out for all of the selected schools.  Each school then requires the completion of a supplement which asks additional questions.  To begin the application please visit www.commonapp.org to open an account.  Please be sure to add my email address under the forms section so that I will know that you have started the application.  TAPCocounselor@gmail.com.  For the Commonapp, all school forms (transcript, recommendation, evaluation) are completed electronically so you do not need to request these documents.

IMPORTANT!!! EOP applicants should NOT use this application.  EOP applicants should appy to SUNY institutions using the www.suny.edu application.  HEOP Applicants can use the commonapp, but must be sure to check the HEOP box on the application.

CUNY applications

Picture
You can only apply to CUNY by visiting www.cuny.edu and opening up a portal account.  You can apply to six schools a single $65 payment.  CUNY schools do not require recommendations or mid-year reports, unless you are applying to the CUNY honors college.  The CUNY honors college requires a separate application and fee.  If you apply to a CUNY honors college and are not accepted, you must have also applied to the college as a regular admissions applicant in order to attend that institution.  Once you have completed the application and paid the $65, be sure to print the "document return receipt" and submit it to me with a transcript request form.
