College Tools
College Visits – shows students which college visits are coming up and allows students to indicate if they plan to attend a visit. To sign up for a college visit, the student should click View All Upcoming College Visits and click Sign Up next to the college visit he or she plans to attend.
SuperMatch™– a visually-based search that helps student find the right fit for college. Students select from a list of college decision factors and rank their importance. As the student makes selections, the best-match colleges appear with information about why the college(s) is a good match. Students can save their searches and add colleges to the Colleges I’m Thinking About list from here.
College Match – this tool uses colleges on the student’s application list and shows colleges that match those colleges. There are three components: Colleges Looking for Students Like You, which compares against students at the high school; Colleges Other Students Link, which compares against in the Naviance Network; Colleges That Have Accepted Students Like You, which compares against students at the high school.
College Lookup – this tool allows students to find specific colleges. From here the student can view the college profile, which has the same valuable information that you can view in Naviance.
College Search – an advanced search tool that enables students to create searches that focus on college criteria that is important to them, such as costs, campus surroundings, available majors, etc. Students can save college searches.
College Resources – provides a list of web resources about colleges, financial aid and other key topics in the college admissions process.
College Maps – shows students where colleges are located. The map tool is MapQuest. A visual representation can give students insight into colleges they are interested in. The College Maps tool shows colleges on the map using the College Groups feature in Naviance.
College Profiles - The college profiles provide valuable information about an institution within Naviance. You can access the database of colleges by clicking the Colleges tab in the main navigation bar. If you built a Quicklist, those colleges will appear. You can search for colleges using the options in the Find Colleges section on the left navigation bar.
To view a college profile, click the college name. The profile appears. From here you can edit information about the college, add notes, and research specific information about the college.
College Compare – allows students to choose colleges from the Naviance database and compare scores and GPA to students at the school or district who applied to the college. In order for this tool to work, Naviance needs to pull from historical data.
Scattergrams – visually shows students their data compared to other students at the school who applied and received results to the same college. If there is not enough data, the scattergram may not show results. In order for this tool to work, Naviance needs to pull from historical data.
Acceptance History – shows students a list of colleges that students from the school have applied to and enrolled in over a certain period of time. You can adjust the period of time in Naviance. From the acceptance history, students can link to a map that represents where alumni attend college or view college profiles. In order for this tool to work, Naviance needs to pull from historical data.
A Few How-To's for the College Piece:
College Quicklist
The college quicklist allows you to easily access colleges you work with in Naviance. This list of colleges is the first page you access when you click Colleges on the menu bar.
To create a quicklist from an existing list of colleges:
1. Go to Colleges.
2. Click Build from Lists.
3. Select a group of colleges using the radio button. Note: For the last two options, you may need to make a selection using the drop-down
menu.
4. Click the Continue button.
5. A list of colleges that match the criteria you selected appear.
6. Uncheck any colleges you do not want to appear in the quicklist. Note: You can also uncheck all the colleges and only check those you want
to add to the quicklist.
7. Click the Add to Quicklist button.
8. Your quicklist is now populated with those colleges.
Colleges I’m Thinking About List
– as students complete their college research and find schools of interest, they can add them to the Colleges I’m Thinking About list in Family Connection.
There are a few ways to add to this list:
From the college profile (click Add to List)
From the Colleges I’m Thinking About list (click Add
to This List)
From the College Search or SuperMatch™tools
Requesting Final Transcripts
For a student to request a final transcript from their school, the student or counselor must first choose Accepted as the result for the application. See the article Updating the Result of All Applications for All Students for more information.
Once the application result has been updated, the student will be able to request their final transcript from their Family Connection account.
To request a final transcript in Family Connection:
Saving Searches in SuperMatch College Search
Students are able to save their SuperMatch searches.
Converting Prospective Colleges to Active Applications
The prospective colleges list allows you to track colleges that a student is considering. Family Connection enables students to modify the prospective colleges list. If a student decides to apply to a college on the prospective colleges list, you or the student can convert the college to an active application rather than adding the application from scratch.
To convert a prospective college to an active application:

Updating Application Information
Once a student selects the college he or she is attending, that information can be updated in Family Connection from the Colleges I’m Applying To list. The student can select a college from the list and click the Update button to indicate the attending college.
Updating Scholarship Application Information
When a student finds out he or she has been awarded a scholarship, the scholarship information can be updated in Family Connection.
The student should follow the steps listed above; however, instead of clicking Add Scholarships, the student should click Edit Scholarships.
From here the student can update the award status and amount awarded.
